Cite the need for regional coordination and planning to move the Merrimack Valley forward

Lawrence, MA – Mayors Melinda Barrett (Haverhill) and DJ Beauregard (Methuen) have endorsed Juan “Manny” Gonzalez for Mayor of Lawrence following his strong showing on Tuesday’s Preliminary Election. The endorsements are a recognition of the growing momentum of the campaign and the view that a thriving Lawrence creates a stronger Merrimack Valley.

“Juan ‘Manny’ Gonzalez is the epitome of a public servant. At a time when so much of our politics has devolved into shouting matches, Manny has been a steady voice looking to unite a city that has been divided for far too long. As one of the Mayors in the region, I know first-hand that we must all work together to get our communities a fair share of state and federal funding, the importance of regional planning and a desire to expand workforce opportunities across the Merrimack Valley. I wholeheartedly endorse Manny and look forward to working with him after he is sworn in as Mayor of Lawrence in January.” – Mayor Melinda Barrett

“Lawrence is Methuen’s direct neighbor and must be an ally in creating upward mobility and economic opportunity. I know that a thriving Lawrence will help our entire region. Manny has dedicated his life to serving others as a hero firefighter, and he carries that same humility, goodness, and decency into public service. He believes in bringing people together and restoring faith in good government - an ideal that feels novel these days but is essential for Lawrence’s future. When Lawrence thrives, it creates a positive ripple effect across the Merrimack Valley, and I have total confidence that Manny’s moral character and proven leadership will help Lawrence truly thrive. As Mayor, I look forward to working with him to continue our march to transparency and the elimination of waste, fraud and abuse. Over the next several weeks, I will be calling my friends and family in Lawrence to urge them to make Juan ‘Manny’ Gonzalez the next Mayor of Lawrence so we can begin the work of uplifting the entire Merrimack Valley.” Mayor DJ Beauregard (Methuen)

“I am so proud and humbled at the trust these great Mayors have placed in me. This is the place I have called home for most of my life. I look at Lawrence with great pride, but I also know that there is much work to be done. We need a Mayor willing to stand up to the corruption, fraud and waste that has run rampant through our city government for too long. As a fire fighter, I know a thing or two about taking on the hard fights, but this is one I have no intention of losing. I want to thank Mayor’s Barrett and Beauregard for their support and look forward to creating the regional opportunities we all need to make our communities thrive.” – Juan ‘Manny’ Gonzalez
